General Information:

The Wild Adventure Race Spring Thaw (12-Hr) event will be in a completely new location in 2010 - Taylors Falls, MN. The exact race HQ will be announced in March.

Teams of 2 or 4 will be treated to a variety of events, finishing the day with an awards ceremony, generous random prize drawings, and a BBQ meal. Race entry fee includes all of the above, a swag bag for each competitor, and an event shirt. This event is a great way to start off the new adventure race season!

The race is limited to 120 racers and just like past years when this popular spring race sold out a month before registration closed, we will keep a waiting list if racer interest exceeds these limits.

Not ready for the 12-Hr race? Wild Adventure Race is offering a 3-Hr race on the same day.

Competitors in the Wild Adventure Race Spring Thaw (12-hr) race will earn points towards:

2010 Race Recap (5/17/2010):

The 12-hr race saw teams head north to Sunrise Landing on an easy 10 mile trail run from Race HQ at Wild River State Park. This section got the field separated and the blood pumping in the chilly morning air. When racers got to Sunrise Landing the temperature was 35 degrees Fahrenheit as racers entered the St Croix River for an 11 mile paddle (one mile upstream and 10 miles down). Perfect AR weather, but definitely a hypothermia risk. Medical staff was positioned at the paddle take-out to watch for the “-umbles,” but luckily no one required medical attention. After the mandatory kayak cleaning, racers were able to get warmed up by a short 1.5 mile run to get CP8 before hitting the transition to bikes and a 13 mile ride on country roads to Taylors Falls, MN. In Taylors Falls, teams were required to dismount bikes and walk across the bridge over the river before hitting the TA in Interstate State Park (WI). In order to alleviate bottlenecks, the ropes CP was part of a 3 mile ROGAINE where teams could get CP’s A-E in any order. In addition to a very scenic rappel, a highlight of the ropes section was a traverse where racers had to do a little more scrambling than they’ve been used to in Wild AR events. Hopefully we’ll be able to incorporate more ropes work like this in future races. Leaving Interstate State Park, racers obtained one CP at Lions Park (the first one) on their 13 mile ride back to the finish at Wild River SP. The total distance most racers traveled was approximately 52 miles.

Winners of the 4-Person Coed division were WEDALI in a time of 8 hours and 22 minutes; followed by The Beautiful People 36 minutes later; and then the combined Some Gnome Hunters and More Gnome Hunters teams coming in 14 minutes after the second place team.

Winners of the 2-Person Coed division were Little Sumthin Sumthin in 9 hours and 36 minutes; followed by Chuckle Monkey, 1 hour and 4 minutes later; and then Two Gnome Hunters, 21 minutes behind them.

This year the 2-Person Open division is now recognized as eligible for MARSeries points, and Los Bastardos held off their competition finishing in 10 hours and 7 minutes. In second place 27 minutes later was Draggin’ My Brother Along in their first adventure race; followed by Cardiac Arrest 55 minutes behind them.
